Supa Wild Bird Cage Peanut Feeder is designed to deter Squirrels and also larger birds such as Pigeons and Doves from eating Peanuts. The robust powder coated steel frame will certainly be a challenge to the most determined of predators. Provides Smaller Birds with a sense of security while feeding. Approximate Dimensions: 26cm (H) x 17cm (W) x 17cm (D) plus handle. It is always recommended you feed whole peanuts from a peanut feeder as it has been know for fledglings & small birds to choke on whole peanuts. A peanut feeder ensures that the birds can only eat a small piece of the nut at a time. Peanuts are a favourite of garden birds as it is a they are high in energy and a rich source of proteins, fats and fibre. Garden Birds that enjoy Peanuts are Blue Tits, Green Tits, Long Tail Tits, Chaffinches, Bullfinches, Greenfinches, Goldfinches, Woodpeckers, House Sparrows plus many more varieties of wild birds. Squirrels are persistent creatures and will endeavour to get food from the feeder. Additional measures to deter squirrels are: Ensure that the Squirrel cannot access the feeder by jumping on to it from nearby trees or climbing up a feeding station etc. That as an extra deterrent to the Squirrels getting onto a feeder a tree hook is used as this will increase the distance between the feeder and the hanging point. Provide a Squirrel Feeder for the Squirrels as this may encourage them to feed from their own specific feeder and leave the wild bird feeder alone. Add a dash of strong chilli powder to the seed mix. Squirrels do not appreciate the taste of the chilli powder, but birds are not bothered by it. It is always worthwhile cleaning your feeder on a regular basis with warm water & a mild detergent or a disinfectant solution to avoid a build-up of bacteria. Rinse the feeder thoroughly with fresh water after cleaning and allow the feeder to air dry. Remove any uneaten food as spoiled or mouldy food is not good for your Garden Birds. Provide fresh water but regularly change it ideally on a daily basis to ensure it does not become stagnant. It is also worthwhile on a regular basis moving your feeders to different locations around your garden. Ensure you have enough bird feeders in your garden to avoid wild birds congregating around the same feeder.
