Supa Activated Filter Carbon is a very effective chemical media for use within both aquarium & pond filters. Activated Carbon removes impurities and odours to leave your aquarium or pond with crystal clear water. Activated Carbon works by removing heavy metals, odours, discolorations, organic contaminants and pollutants from the water. Supplied in resealable bucket which ensures the product does not get contaminated. Suitable for freshwater & marine aquariums and also ponds filtration systems Supa Activated Carbon is sometimes referred to as activated charcoal. Due to the nature of the manufacturing process of the activated carbon it has an imperfect surface area which on a microscopic level has many crevices this means that it has a very large surface area that allows the activated carbon to absorb many different compounds. To put this into perspective the activated carbon has a surface area of 1000m²/gram. This means that 3 grams of Supa activated carbon can have a greater surface area than a football pitch. As the water passes over the activated carbon it captures the heavy metals, odours, discolorations, organic contaminants such as excess food or fish faeces, and pollutants from the water leaving crystal clear water to circulate back into your aquarium or pond. It is important to replace the activated carbon on a reasonably regular basis so that it remains active. DirectionsThe use of Supa activated carbon in aquarium filtration system is an effective way to remove contaminants such as metal ions and dyes. Determine the amount of activated carbon required by using at least 1g of carbon per litre of water and remove any dust by rinsing in fresh water. Place the required amount of carbon either in a fine mesh bag, or trap between two layers of filter wool, and place in the filter. It is advisable to replace the carbon every four weeks. As a guide: - 4.5 Litres = 1 Gallon
